Biological Safety Cabinet
There are 3 main classes of biological safety cabinet: class I, II and III. All classes equip
similar filter system - High efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter.The differences are that
class I does not equipwith air intake filter. It thus protects only personal and environment.
Class II and III BSC protect the product by equipping HEPA filter for intake air. It thus
prevents contamination in the cabinet. BSC class III is a close system which is the glove
box. BSC class III is the safest cabinet in safety comparing with class I and II.
Laboratory design is the second step of prevention after BSC.The objective is to prevent
contamination from BSC to environment. The example is installation of air-cleaner with
ventilation system.
